5.0 with less than 30k miles dropped a valve.
My 3 1/2yo STX 4x4 has less than 30k miles but decided to drop a valve. Nobody I've talked with has ever heard of this happening to the 5.0, and now I'm waiting 10-12 weeks for a remanufactured engine from Ford under my 5/60k powertrain warranty. My truck is immaculate inside and out (with the exception of the missing engine) and I would be interested in the thoughts of others.

Update and Good News Story
Wanted to provide an update on my original post. Ford treated me well and I couldn't have asked for more. I wasn't anticipating a replacement engine until December, but I got my truck back on 12 Oct. Ford paid to tow my truck to and from my house so I could store it in my garage out of the elements. They also paid for a rental F-150 from Enterprise. The dealer told me I'd have the remainder of my original power train warranty after the install (30k miles, but only about 12 months), so I called the FOMOCO toll free number and talked with one of their customer service managers. Without hesitation he offered me a 36mo/36k mile extended warranty--on the entire truck! I've had my F-150 back for about a month and she's running like a champ. I've been making sure I let everyone else know how well this was handled, too.

This is why I like Ford.
Ford has always serviced me well.
Some might know I talk about an '03 Escape that went through 4 transmissions by 100k, Ford made it right every single time. Only thing I didn't like was I wasn't driving my OWN vehicle.. but hey, like the service manager told me at one point -- Might as well enjoy the rental and not putting miles on your truck. After he said that, I was like, hmm... he's got a valid point!
