1998 F150 4.6 Missing Under Acceleration
My grandfather's '98 F150 runs fine at idle, and light acceleration, but when he punches it, it starts missing and shaking and it acts like it doesn't want to live anymore. I have no idea what it could be, we replaced the plugs a while back with E3 Diamond Fires from O'Reilly. We just replaced the wires with OmniSpark, because my grandma doesn't like to spend a lot. I have seen a lot with these trucks being picky if they don't use Motorcraft brand everything. The truck has about 250k on it.

You get what you pay for - OmniSpark is a cheap wire. At O'Reilly's, Motorcraft wires cost over twice as much. However, you can get Motorcraft wires from rockauto.com for half the price as the same ones at O'Reilly. You can also save on plugs too.

So I went out yesterday to look under the hood after I got home, and checked the wire on the cylinder that the code said was misfiring, (#3) and not to my surprise, I was able to push the wire down on the cylinder and it moved. Same with all other wires. These junk wires my grandma got to save money ended up costing her another $50 wasted. Ordered motorcraft wires, will be here Wednesday.

Oh, thanks for saving me the hassle of trying to find the proper torque specs. Also, I heard somewhere that Ford changed the recommended oil from 5W30 to 5W20 because it gets to the timing setup faster. Is this true?

So, replaced the wires with motorcraft wires. Seemed perky and better than it would have been normally... at first. Then, down the road at a stop light, started shaking at idle, took off... no power AT ALL. Check engine light came back on telling me it was misfiring again. This truck is starting to make me very angry. Planning on plugs tomorrow. Edit: The truck is making a clicking noise when running. Maybe fuel?
