High mileage mantainance

I posted earlier about acquiring my 94 F150 4WD 302 . I知 bringing it in to get the new clutch on Monday. I知 not in a spot to do my own maintenance so I知 planning on getting the following done: Clutch, full tune up, front brakes, rear wheel cylinders(getting gummy), rear brakes. Anything else that I should have closely looked at or serviced? 302 engine, 5 speed 4wd, 182000 Miles.

The engine is running great, no leaks anywhere, no overheating issues.

I changed the transfer case fluid in Feb before my son took it to fla. I can do the rear diff fluid on my own.

I'd have somebody looking at the Universals. Nothing quite so nice as going down the road and dropping the driveshaft. You can get by a few miles by taking the rear driveshaft off and using the front only but it'll drive a little weird.

I'd have the shop look at the water pump too. It can be loose and not leak right now but turn loose on a road trip. Probably need to have them check the fan clutch as well. Unless you know the alternator has been replaced, I'd want to make sure the bearing aren't about to fall out. All of these are relatively simple checks. It all might be fine. It could be factory original and about to take a dump.

I値l add all of that to the list. After just driving it 700 miles on thurs, I知 pretty sure the engine is fine, but all of those you mentioned are sure to ruin my day if they go. It痴 not my dd but it will be come wintertime

Replace the fuel filter. As part of the front brakes, it would be a good time to replace the calipers.

Along with the rubber lines. They are cheap to replace. Why not.

Just got a call from the shop. He said the truck was running on borrowed time. We knew the clutch was bad, but he said he was shocked to see how bad the U joints were. He said my driveshaft should be on the side of the road somewhere. 🤣 Clutch and U Joints fixed today and he値l be moving on to check brakes, water pump, alternator and leveled and aligned. I知 thinking I値l be looking at a 2k bill. It値l be worth it to keep in on the road.

Vehicles are going to cost to drive, whether it's new or used. Hopefully the used ones will cost less.

I'm reminded of the saying, "If it burns gasoline or has *****, it's going to cost some serious green.!"

yup. It値l be worth it because I知 going to sell my new car, so the payment and insurance I値l be saving will save me $$ and interest in the long run. I live in the mountains and drive no more than 5 miles a day, if that. I need the 4WD in the winter, I don稚 need a cushy car with a payment

Looks like I got new u joints, clutch and flywheel, upper and lower radiator hose, full tune up with wires, fuel filter, rear wheel brake cylinders, 2罵eveling kit and alignment for 1200. I think I found my new go to mechanic.
