97 f150 4.2 temp guage pegs

temp guage stays high with key on all the time other guages are ok. Is this temp guage still a simple analog circuit ? and maybe just a short to ground ? and does anyone have a wiring diagram for this ?

You can check the temp sensor by using a DMM in resistance. If it has a short/open, it will indicate it.

It is not a simple analog circuit. It's progressive till it gets up to normal operating temperature, then it stays in the middle till it overheats, then it will suddenly peg.

I have a similar issue with my temp gauge. Does anyone know the location of the temp sensor so I can test it out? Thanks!

According to this diagram the Cylinder Head Temp sensor is located in the rear from the passenger side. Is this the temp sensor we are referring too? (C107)

Yes, the temp gauge uses the CHT sensor since about 1999.

Cool! I guess i should start there and see if the wires are okay before removing the gauge cluster for possible repair.
