4R70W Hard shift into reverse

My transmission was recently rebuilt at a local shop. It now drives fine but shifts hard into reverse. Shop owner says it is caused by the pressure regulator and is ok. Does this sound right or is he just yanking my chain ? Thanks.

I always modify the valve body to quicken up reverse engagement on all of these transmissions.

Can you define how hard?

I'm not sure how exactly to answer that but to say I get a heavy metal ping type sound and if I didn't have my foot very firmly on the brake it would certainly jump back. The truck shakes quite a bit when it goes into gear.

I would say that this isn't normal.

Have you checked the u-joints and the rear end for excessive play?

Yes. The shop that did the work also inspected them prior to the rebuild and said that they were fine.
