What is the part number for new front wheel bearings on a 04 F150 FX4 4WD? Just replaced the whole vacuum line for the IWE so no more rattling or chattering while accelerating uphill or towing. But now there is a new noise and I believe it to be the wheel bearings.
I have a 2006 F150, 5.4L, 4x4, 6 stud wheel hub.
After weeks of looking for the grinding issue I removed the front wheel bearing & there are chunky metallic in the grease but it doesn't make noise w/o the weight of truck.
I looked up the part on Autzone's web site (Duralast - #DL515079 1-yr warranty ($179) & MOOG #515079 3-yr ($260)).
I then looked up the parts on RockAuto, I first pulled up the wheel bearing using the year, make, model, part name ex. ex.
I got a list of different name brands parts including Dura with "515079" ($97).
I then looked up on RockAuto just using the Part number search "515079" & again I got a list of different name brands but this time "MOOG 515079"($130) showed up which I thought great, the one that has a longer warranty at Autozone!
Here is my concern / question, since "MOOG-515079" did not come up when I did a search w/year, make, model, ex, ex. Do you have any experience in ordering a part just with the part number and not w/year, make, model, ex, ex??
Did you click on INFO for each one and compare alternate part numbers?
yes, some do say "Alternate/OEM Part Number(s): 515079" or a whole list of other numbers.
The one I want to get is "MOOG 515079" just because it should be the better part for the money. I just had concerns since it doesn't come up when searching w/truck info. but it does when searching with part number.
The mfd. date on my truck is 08/05.
After you sent your question I started looking though each one that fits my truck & the other part number that is common even w/MOOG is "Alternate/OEM Part 7L3Z1104A".
So I guess "MOOG 515079" is a safe bet to order for my truck.
Unlesss you think I should check something else first?
The only part number that comes up on tascaparts.com is "7L3Z1104A", so I guess since that is a alternate number for MOOG515079 on rockauto, I should be good to order MOOG.
I replaced the bearings & hub w/MOOG 515079 part number but I'm still getting a grinding sound during acceleration only. Info from other threads on this forum, I'm understanding that the grinding might come from a vacuum leak causing 4x4 to engage & dis-engage.
Did you change out your 4wd actuator as well? just changing hub assembly bearing won't get rid of the grinding, if the hub actuator is bad, then it won't disengage properly and could cause grinding noise you are experiencing.
Kylevd23, I did not replace the actuator (I did not know what that was at that point). One thing I did noticed after changing the bearings on the passenger side, I could hear the noise on the drivers side. I saw that that the 4wd actuator on the drivers side was cracked in two places. I replaced the 4wd actuator and the noise stopped. Now when I switch to 4wd I can hear & feel the 4wd locking in. I jacked up the truck (truck on) and both wheels spin freely on 2wd & the wheels & shaft spin together on 4wd. before replacing the actuator, the wheel & shaft would always spin.
but now I have another problems.
I put it in 4wd hi & try to drive but it feels like the front wheels go & lock up, go & lock up. I could only drive under 5 mph. It feels like the back tires are pushing the front tires. at one point I thought I heard my back tires peal out & the front skid at the same time.
The other thing is I couldn't take it out of 4wd, I put it in park & switched 4wd back & forth, tried turning off the truck, & in neutral switching 4wd back & forth, it finely switched to 2wd so I just left it a lone before I damage it up.
So I think I need to replace the bearings on the drivers side also. unless you think I should do something different.
Check 4wd solenoid under the hood, it should be against the firewall as well. The older style ones without the hat are known to go out as water will drip on it from rain and such. Also, check your transfer case shift motor which will allow it to engage the transfer case into 4wd and such. these are sitting outside of the transfer case and are exposed to the elements, and can eventually go bad as well.

I did check the solenoid (that was ok), but I had not checked the shift motor. Is there anything specific I should look for? or as long as it has movement?
Not sure, here is mine below, I did mine for preventative maintenance, as I have read on other posts people not being able to engage or disengage from 4wd, so didn't want the same thing happening with winter coming, and it was pretty old. But you can see from the picture the corrosion and stuff it is exposed to over time.
