P Codes

I have a 2009 F150 with P0012 and 0022 error codes. Would it be safe (or wise) for me to drive 80 miles to shop for repairs?

Both codes are for the camshafts being retarded. Shouldn't be a problem to drive it to get it fixed. Probably run a little crappy though. The only caveat to that would be if the oil journals are plugged or sludged. As long as you are having decent oil pressure, it shouldn't be an issue.

Thanks Labnerd for you fast response. Oil pressure gauge indicates good\normal oil pressure. I will go easy and make the trip.

Watch the engine temperature because retarded timing will make the engine run hotter. Well, I was thinking ignition timing. Not sure about valve timing?

Oil pressure gauge is not a real gauge, it's an idiot gauge. Pressure could be too low to operate the phasers but still show "normal".

I just wanted to let everyone know that ford has determined my trouble to be with the VCT solinoids. They found a hole in filter screen on front of solinoid. they are putting in a new 5.4 under warranty.

Thanks for everyone's advise.
