Question 2006 xlt cluster swap for 2006 xlt cluster swap, help ???

Asking for a friend.. I have read mixed reviews on this.. some have said reprogramming is needed, however that was using a different cluster from a different model.. this would be the same cluster just from a different truck.. I know the miles won't be the same but other the. That it should plug and play and all work correct ? So a cluster from a xlt 2006 going into a 2006 xlt. Thanks.. I did a search but this particular question has not been asked..

Not correct. It will be mandatory to reprogram the PATS system.

That is correct. It will be inhibited from starting when the cluster swap is done.

A properly equipped locksmith or mechanic will also be able to do it. Probably a half an hour of actual work. Call around for local rates.

So wouldit be possible for the dealer to install the info from the truck into the cluster before the new cluster is installed ? I'm trying to save my buddy some money, I can swap the clusters out.. Just want to know if it can be pre programmed prior to install ? Thanks

I do not believe so. I think the cluster has to be physically installed in order to reprogram it.

No. The cluster, the PCM, and the keys to be programmed all have to be present and in place.

I know that this is a months old thread but I have done a cluster swap from an 08 xlt to an 07 xlt and everything worked as normal (with the exception to the odometer). It was literally plug and play, all the needles, lights as well as the message center showed "door ajar" since my door was open.

the only thing you'll need reprogrammed would be the mileage, everything should work as before.
