I know that these are older trucks now but my 2015 still feels new to me.

I have a 2015 xlt 5.0 L v8. My son in law recently picked up the same truck in a 2014. Interestingly, since I have a trailer a spend time on the road, we both have about the same mileage. In fact his is a little less.

Last week, in doing some yard work for them I was able to spend extensive time with his pickup. I found the differences not so subtle. First thing I noticed was the more truck ride. the 2014 was stiffer. The ride wasn't as smooth on rougher roads either. Not anything bad, just noticeable. I also noticed that the truck was more sluggish in lower gears particularly going from 3rd to 4th. When I'd take off, often the same route getting topsoil a few times each day I'd turn onto an upward grade. The truck seemed to rev a bit longer in third before shifting. Other gears seemed a bit more sluggish also. I'm wondering if the steel/aluminum weight difference might be the reason. Also, the 2014's registered avg gas mileage was showing 14.5 while mine was 20.1. Again Aluminum?

Of course they changed the interior, for the better in my opinion.

I just thought I'd post these observations.

 

I'm curious about the gear ratio and tire size of your two F150's?

'13 with 3.55's and 5.0 get's a little bit better than my '15 with 3.31's and 5.0. Needless to say the '15 has a few more BHP.
I didn't notice a different ride with 500 lbs. in the back of both. But I had just come out of an F250...
I think the last gen F150 side view mirrors are much better.

 

The 2015 is lighter and the 5.0 has more HP/TQ.

 

The fuel economy display in my 2016 3.5 TIVCT supercab shows 23.5 but doing calculations after fill ups comes out to 20.5 mpg. Your 20.1 for a 5.0 is a pipe dream.....fill up and do the math. I guess Ford thinks the owners believe they get 2-4 mpg more than what they actually do.
The 2014 fuel mileage should be higher than 14.5, something is wrong.
You what I do when I am driving.....I drive and not analyze every little thing. That behavior has kept me crash free for 45 years.

 

My calculated mileage is always within 0.5 mpg. Last long trip 400 miles, (with a section over some mountains in VT, was 20.1 by doing the math. The display read 20.3. When mixed driving on the flat surfaces around here I'm avg 20.5. No pipe dream.

 

No one I know get's over 18.5 mpg with their 2015, 16, and 2017 5.0 crew cabs. They do have 4x2 5.0s but since you live in maine, I assume you have a 4x4 and that is even worse on gas.

 

Well, now you know one. I've never gone below 19.1 mpg.

Although.... When I haul my cargo conversion to go cross country I drop to 12.5 mpg. It's light, all aluminum but tall. Wind resistance is the mileage killer.

Next time I fill the tank and travel at least a couple hundred miles I'll snap a picture of the mileage, then again when I fill the tank, along with the pump gallons.

 

You must not do much city driving...

I can regularly get 21+ on the highway, but if I am doing ALL city driving, my tank will be in the 17mpg range, sometimes worse.

I love the 5.0, I have a supercrew 5.0 4x2 with 3.31 rear, 6.5' bed and tend to have a little heavier foot.

But i'm calling BS on the 19mpg average if you do a lot of city driving.

 

The onboard MPG computers are very generous. The one in my Fusion is always 2 mpg higher than actual, the F150 so far is a tad less.

 

Ethanol percentage can contribute to the discrepancy. Different areas use more, while others use less.
