Unhappy Loud winding noise coming from front only in forward

all of a sudden my 2007 super cab 4X4 is making a winding noise, almost like a piece of metal that is rubbing across the knuckles on my driveshaft or something like that because as the truck slows down, the clicks slows down accordingly.

the noise is pretty damn loud and it seems to be coming from the front axle somewhere.

if i go in reverse, it doesn't happen. when i put it back in drive, it starts back.

i put it in 4 wheel a couple times but that didn't seem to help.

i first noticed it as i was exiting the highway a few days ago and as i'm coming to a stop on the ramp, i heard the winding noise and when i came to a stop at the light and proceeded to go forward, i didn't hear it again.

today, i was going down a street at about 35 mph and heard it and now it won't stop!

i hope someone here knows what it is and hopefully something not complex to fix.

thanks.

i just had a friend listen and the noise seems to come from right behind the front driver's wheel.

took the wheel off and i don't see anything out of the ordinary.

when i turn the rotor by hand, i don't hear any clicking.

i'm hoping it's not in the drive shaft to the wheel.

one thing i forgot to mention earlier, when i heard it a few days ago, when i did come to the stop, the noise kept going about a half a second after the stop and seemed to "lock" into position, almost as if something should have been locked in but wasn't until i came to complete stop, but after i went forward again, the noise wasn't there.

now, i don't hear that short wind down and lock anymore.

it's just constantly making the noise now.

never mind.

with a little googling, it looks like it is the IWE (independent Wheel End) or a vacuum issue with it.

gonna do more research...
