looking to swap out a 04-08 f150 5.4 3V
So I've been looking for replacement motors for my 04 f150. Been looking at the 5.4 lightning long block, and
5.4 crate motor. Just wandering what the difficulty would be to install or problems encountered or if there would be a better option for swap?thanks

I watched a few of the Deboss Garage videos and the mechanic who makes the videos does not like Fords. Anyway, he said that the company that provides reman engines to his garage quit rebuilding the 5.4 3V engines because they were so difficult to rebuild. As I remember he said the cams don't have bearings and to rebuild them the heads had to be align bored and cam bearings pressed in.
if you go for a reman, don't buy the first cheap one you see advertised. Buy one from a reputable rebuilder.

This is the email that was sent to me,
We have the Ford authorized remanufactured engine for $2679 for the basic longblock with reclaimed phasers, $2799 for the longblock with sheetmetal or $3099 with sheetmetal and new Ford OEM cam phasers. There is a refundable $500 core deposit which can be waived for 30 days. It carries a 3 year/100,000 mile parts and labor warranty. The $2799 and $3099 versions come complete with oil pan, timing cover, spark plugs, valve covers and VVT solenoids as pictured including installation gaskets and exhaust stud kit. These engines are produced alongside the Ford Motorcraft brand engines at the same remanufacturing facility. These engines have the cam journals bored out and cam bearings installed to correct the oiling issues that cause the cam phaser/timing chain tensioner failures. In addition, they’re built with the Melling high volume oil pump for an added measure of dependability. The $2799 version is the exact same engine our competitors are selling for $3055- $3345. We also offer for $149 an upgrade to a no-fault warranty that will replace the engine even if the failure is not due to defects in workmanship and material. They seem to have been in business for a long time. Their site hasn't changed since it's inception. (Did some webarchive..) Their prices haven't changed much either, heck, since even the early 2000's.
Judging from that, they seem to be OK -- they aren't a fly-by-night rebuilder, which is good and they seem to stand by their pricing.
I'd go for it.
