Adjusting catch on ext-cab rear doors

2001 F150 X-cab
Does anyone know how to adjust the top latch on the rear doors to get it to engage more - push the door in more at the top. Mine is engaging and latching okay, but its a tad loose at the top and I would like to adjust it, just can't figure out how.

I had my 2003 in to the dealer about 2 weeks ago because the top of my drivers side s-cab door does not latch without slamming the door. The service manager told me that the door was normal and that there is NO adjustment.

I asked a buddy of mine...

who does body work and he suggested placing a 2x4 at the bottom of the door and pushing on the top to twist the door slightly inward at the top so the latch will ingage....hhhhmmmm

The top latch is engaging. I can grap the top of the door and wiggle it in and out. Its latched, just not as tight as I would like. The 'U' hook on the chassis frame looks like it can go up and down, but I can't see how to adjust for in and out. Anyone else know?

I HAVE THE SAME FLAW WITH MY PASSENGER SIDE EXT. DOOR.

I posted the question a couple in front of this one but this is what I did......

The U hook on the frame at the bottom can be adjusted in and out. Use those star type sockets and losen the 2 screws. Once lose, just put an extension up against the bottom plate and slow tap away pushing towards the inside of the truck. Once it moves inward to where you want it then tighten things up. As you tighten it up, it will want to move back out on you cause of the turn of the socket. This is how I did it. Good Luck !!

What did you mean by, "Just put an extension?" What kind of extension?

I'm assuming a socket extension - I doubt you will get a reply from the poster you quoted as that post was made 16 years ago.

You may need to take the inner door panels off and adjust the cables which operate the latches.
