Powder Coat vs. Paint

I have a 99 F250 SD, SC, 4 x 4 V10, The front bumper is the chrome jobbie with the grey plastic wrap on the lower 1/3 rd. Well, some tool backed into it and creased it in the middle.

I picked up a 2001 (ish) model all grey paint metal front bumper from a railroad for $50.00. They buy new trucks and pull the front and rears off and install the "train wheels" you see on them. The bumper is charcoal grey paint and I want to do something different with it. Since I can't afford to have this unit chromed, I thought I would have it painted white to match my truck or have it powder coated semi gloss black.
What do you think will hold up better and look better, painted or powder coated?

Thanks,

Justin

powder and you can do some much cooler things than just black or white with the new powders they have out now including a hammer finish that might be cool for you.

Thumbs up

Powder coating is bullet proof. It should be cheaper than chrome plating but I'm not sure by how much.

I have a local shop that Powder Coats parts for my race car. I decided to go with Gloss Black. He charged me $50.00 for the work and it will be finished tomorrow afternoon. I will have about $100.00 in the total deal, parts and coating when I am finished and he offered a 20 year guarantee on the finish! I'll post before and after pictures once I get it back tomorrow!

Love it, another LVL person. I live in Clarksville, IN and work in LVL, on Shelbyville Road.

E-mail me and maybe we can get together for a drink some time. I am always up for meeting new people.

Here are a few pics of my old and new bumper.

After

Ironic. I work on Shelbyville Road as well... Up in St. Matthews very near Trinity HS.

Kewl bumper... different from the normal...

How well will that hold up to rock chips and such?

Sounds like a drink down at BW3's in St. Matthews might be in order... let me know if you'd like to get together sometime... I'll buy the first round.

I work in the "Flash Cube" building at Hurstbourne and Shelbyville. BW3's any day.

The shop said it would be more resisitant than paint, and the stock "Non-Chrome" units were painted to start with. It has a 20 Year Guarantee, but for $50.00 I can afford it get it done every month in a different color. It was a dream to remove, 4 bolts, two on each side of the "tow hooks".

The white powder coat was too white, but the grey and black marble hammer finish looks cool, maybe next month I'll get that.

I like it, it is different. Gives it attitude.

My office number is 502-339-7442 ext 133 and my cell is 502-777-8780. I am out of town Mondays and Tuesdays. Give me a call and we can meet for lunch.

Justin,

Thanks for the invite man... we'll definately have to get together sometime. It sounds like the BW3 down there in the Kroger shopping center on Hurstborne might be the better option for both of us as I have to head that way to get home everyday.

What do you do in 'the cube'? Any need for any environmental consulting assistance? I'm your man if so!

I'll give you a call... if you don't hear from me, drop me an email at kingranch@hotmail.com

I've seen a few various parts coated with Line-X and I must say... they looked good.

Specifically Skagel (Sarah's) trailer hitch on her King Ranch. It's Line-X'd arizona beige to match the line X bedliner. It looks killer.

I even saw a truck like mine where its silver on the bottom sprayed with Line-X. It looked great too!

I should open a franchise, I love that stuff

i'm getting partial to arma coatings as they have a bunch of different formulas and do more than just truck beds. never the less, love the line-x also it just seems the arma coat is more versatile.
