Angry How much Damage ?

Hi guys,
Just got my truck back from my wife...she now has the Cobra

We switch off now and then. Problem is when I got in the truck this morning, I noticed the 4x4 light on. looked at the switch...it's in 4x4 high . Called my wife and asked how long it had been that way and she had no clue. She said the tires have been squeeling when she turns for about a week.

Here's the bad part. Right now we live about 250 miles appart. She came up last night to see me and swap cars. So...I know the truck has been run at least 250 - 300 miles on DRY pavement at speeds (knowing my wife) up to about 90 MPH.

Anyone know what kind of damage might have been done? Anything you can suggest I check to see if any damage has been done?

I looked at the fron tires, and they look ok. I'm mainly concerned with the front drive line.

I figured I would change the transfer case fluid and maybe even the front diff fluid this weekend. I'll drain it through a strainer to verify no visable flakes.

Women drivers

Just about a month ago she slid on black ice and smacked the passenger side of the bed into a semi...I've still got to get that replaced.

Now she's got my Cobra (praying for it's return)

Your wife doesn't sound like the best driver

She drives the cobra fine...6 speed and all.

I think she just doesn't feel as "comfortable" in the truck (too big).

Also, the Cobra is a fairly stripped down "race" car. No frills. The truck has every option available. Too many **** for her purse to bump

I drove mine that way for 50 miles in 110 deg. temperature. Averaged around 75 mph. I thought I had a head wind and smelled hot rubber which I thought was from the car in front of me.

It wore the front tires a bit but other than that , no damage noticeable for about 9 months now.

I think you'll be fine - do you remember the ford truck comercials with the NASCAR drivers as car salesmen who take the customers for some wild test drives? In one of them, they take a s'crew around a big oval in 4hi at speed...

I think you will be fine, it's more likley to cause damage to the tires than anything else. Not recomended to use on dry pavement though. It's the turns that really wear it out especially the really tight ones.

I was in 4hi on gravel and was in a sharp turn when I hit pavement, the front started to bind and as I disengaged the 4wd it made a really loud pop noise. Scared me to no end but I have used the 4wd quite a bit since then and no problems.

Don't worry be happy

well.....

She definatly didn't do it any good. I'd change all fluids for sure.
I assume that 4x4 still works ?

I can't believe she didn't notice. I drove mine on pavement once for < 2miles, and it felt like bot front brakes were dragging. *VERY* noticable.

I'd guess either way the life of the system has been shortened. No real way to tell though.......

Remember it's a lot more comfortable to sleep with your wife than your truck, so don't make too big a deal about it.
