Dyno day #2 for the Blue Goose -or- Stock '03 -vs- JDM full exhaust '03 numbers

Hi guys, I made it to the dyno today to test out the new JDM exhaust. If you'll remember I ran the truck wednesday night and it put out these numbers with around 450 miles on the odometer:

346.3 Horsepower
413.9 Ft/lbs Torque

as you may know I installed my new JDM/Kooks full exhaust system the other night.

remember, the truck is BONE STOCK aside from this exhaust system (long tubes, cats, magnaflow). same dyno, three days later, however it was cooler today and I did have a longer cooldown time, but I got a second "hotlap" dyno run that backed up VERY close numbers to the first run.

anyway, here you go,
results of full exhaust on one '03 L:

357.2 Horsepower
442.0 Ft.lbs Torque

these numbers show: 10.9 HP and 28.1 FT/LBS gained

Not bad, but not alot of gain for the money. Hopefully this mod will help support higher gains with other mods (additional boost/airflow).

(EDIT: I've been playing with this Dynojet Runviewer thing and comparing the two runs. The gains are actually much better than I initially thought!
I know earlier I said that the exhaust only made 10.some horsepower right?
well actually that is only at the peak numbers. I just didn't notice because the lines on the graph appear to be so close together it didn't look like much of a gain, but throughout MOST of the RPM range the gains are closer to 17-18HP! For example at about 3780RPMs, the first run is at 296.4 and the second one is at 316.5! That is a 20HP gain!)

later,
chris

You'll really be able to get the full benefits after you get a Chip, Pulley, Filter and T/B!!!
( OR N20 OR BEEGER BLOWER )

sweet!

Chris, we should get together soon so I can check out your L.

Something that just crossed my mind the other day, are you allowed to do your own state inspections on your cars?

Also, Is Universal a mod friendly dealer? I bought my 01 L from Sheehy on Midlo Tnpk and I have been hesitant to do any significant mods in fear of voiding my warranty.

I would trek across town to Universal if I knew I would get better service and say a more "lieniant attitutde" towards mods.

Just a curious Southsider,

Have you gone through the full range of hp/tq readings to find the largest overall improvement?

ema100c:

you should definately stop by the dealership if you get a chance or call me at work and we'll set up a meeting outside of work.

I haven't bothered getting my state inspection liscense (mainly because it is more trouble than it's worth IMHO and it doesn't make me any more money for going to the trouble of getting it and dealing with the power tripping state troopers) But, if I did have it, yes of course I'd inspect and sticker my own vehicle.

Universal is a mod friendly dealer (to an extent) only because I work there and do most of the SVTs. However Ford is cracking down MAJORLY on all mods, so they are liable to send an inspector out at any time for a major repair. they are just looking for a chance to void warranties it seems. I just talked to a kid last night that removed all of his mods on his '01 before going to Richmond ford, but he left superchips stickers laying inside the truck and they sent an inspector out to check his glovebox and pulled the pcm and voided his warranty. he had to buy a new motor at a cost of around $6000 after parts and labor.

I would be happy to work on your truck. But there are some good guys at Sheehy southside too.

I am from southside myself, I went to L.C. Bird and lived near the county courthouse on RT10. I worked at **** Strauss Ford (now Sheehy south) for 2 or 3 years. My old Team Leader there owns a black L. You might speak to him if you don't feel like crossing the river. Red Team.

Chainsaw 13:

I need to go to the dynojet website and download their software so I can post the graph comparison. I will do that shortly.

Don's Bolt:

This is my OPINION, but frankly, I don't like the sound. Don't get me wrong, the headers and the entire exhaust system appear to be TOP QUALITY, but the sound is not particularly to my liking. It is definately loud though. I believe it may be scaring other drivers!

The kicker was this, my old red truck came into the shop Friday (the morning after I had installed this stuff on the blue truck) for service and I got to drive it and listen to it with the Bassani.

I personally prefer the bassani sound. just my .02

I'm not saying it's better, just a different sound that suits my taste. I suspect I may end up replacing the Magnaflows.

Superfords- I think that you really won't be able to see the true potential of this system until you either up the boost or add the bottle. I guess SVT did there home work when it came to the factory exhaust system!!! But 28 ft lbs. of torque isn't to shabby for a stock truck though!!

Chris, how loud is this system? I had just about decided to order one next week but this post has me second guessing myself. I absolutly do not want a very loud truck. I have a single magnaflow (without headers) on my 99 and I really don't want anything much louder than it is. Also your power gains were not as impressive as I would have hoped for. Maybe as Hankfan said with a 4 lb. pulley and chip and filter it would pay more dividens. That is a lot of money per HP! And you don't even like the sound! If I went with the Kooks headers but with a Bassani cat back who do you get the high flow cats from? I think I remember lots of problems with Bassani cats back in 99.

God I love that sonic blue!!!!

You'll see a big HP/TRQ improvment with the pulley, chip and filter installed afterwards.

could you post the graphs? peak hp gains dont mean much to me at all. Its the gain over the entire graph.

The big improvement comes when you add a pulley because the JDM exhaust will handle the increased air flow.

Don't forget to e-mail me the dyno files

The runveiwer program is okay, but it's got bugs and doesn't always work/display right.

I don't know how you'd post a pic. My guess would be to do the thing where you save a screen shot, then crop the graph portion out. Either that or print the graph from Runveiwer (if it gives that option) and scan it.

well, I know this is a little cheesy, but I took a picture of the dyno graph printout. my scanner isn't hooked up and I don't know how to directly link a copy of the graph onto the post, so anyway, here it is:
