How do I choose what size mass airflow meter I need?
How do I choose what size mass airflow meter I need?
I think one of the problems is that I don't understand exactly how they work.
Here is what I wrote to Pro-M yesterday;
"How do I choose a mass air meter? What maf would you guys recommend? I have a 2001 Ford F150 Lightning with a KB supercharger. I calculate I am well over 1500cfm and the stock 90mm mass air pegs pretty quickly. I'd like to upgrade to a meter that wouldn't peg the 5 volts. I may switch to a Novi 2000 later this year and they are capable of 1700 cfm. I am currently running siemens deka 55 lb high impedence injectors."
"Attached is picture of pegged maf on autotap."
Their response was, "Yes it looks like you are pegged. I would recommend the 92mm mass flow meter...The 92mm meter is an aluminum cast piece with a 4 in outlet. It is about 20 % more efficient than your stock meter."
I'm trying to figure out how a mass air meter which is only 2mm bigger than mine won't max out with all the air I'm moving. Mine maxes out at around 4K rpms. I seriously doubt that a 92mm meter is going to cut it to 6K rpms.

I think you get get the maf calibrated for diferent size injectors. Is that how they do it?see here
Would I just pick my injector size and have them make me a maf with that calibration? I know fuel pressure makes the injectors act differently so do they also take that into account? Am I just too lost to even help on this?

Pro-M meters don't usually had the plastic piece sticking out in the flow path like the stock meter. They have some kind of air tube that barely sticks out from the side that measures the air volume.
If I remember correctly the 80mm Pro-M MAF would flow very close to the stock 90mm MAF. This is why 99-00 L owners put the 80mm Pro-M MAF on before the FORD 90mm MAF was available.

okay, here was the last email.
Me: "Seriously, how can a maf that is 2mm bigger not max out when I max out my 90mm ford meter at less than 4000rpms?"
Pro-Flow: "First our 92 is equivalent to a ford 110mm. And we rescale the electronics so that they do not peg."
