Brand new '02 4.6 turns over, then immediately dies ??
It's like it's getting gas, starting fine, runs for literally one second and dies. AAA is on the way to take it to the dealer. Anyone else have this problem?
This truck has 800 miles on it!

Try checking the fuel inertia switch. Maybe it tripped.
Should be over on the right side kick panel under the glove box.

I'll try the key.
Thanks.
Check the key problem and the Maf connection. Also, check the air tube conncetions to the throttle body. My truck would not run when the air tube was pulled off the first time I treid to clean my TB. Today it did run but it threw a CIL.
Try starting it with the throttle about half open. Sounds like you IAC is stuck shut not allowing air past the throttle plate.

Bernie,
All elements of PATS must be functional before the engine is allowed to start. If any of the components are not working correctly, the vehicle will not start. So if your truck starts and dies it is not a PATS problem.
My WAG is the EGR system.

Did you try starting it with the throttle part open? It sure sounds like the IAC to me. As mentioned above, if it's the wrong key, the truck won't start at all and your theft light will flash rapidly.

Im betting its a bad Idle Air Control valve, or a PATS problem. In a failed PATS start, THE TRUCK WILL START, RUN FOR ABOUT ONE SECOND AND THEN CUT OFF! Thats the way the system works on a PATS module thats built into the HEC. Other PCM integrated PATS systems, like in a contour, focus, escape and a few others do provide starter interrupt and will not allow any starting at all. But in 99-current F150s the older HEC type PATS system will definately start, and then stall. If you dont believe me, try shorting the OBDII diag. connector pins 2, 5 and 10 together and start the truck. That will simulate a network communication failure between the PCM and HEC and cause a theft situation just like a bad or wrong key, bad transciever (common problem) or a network failure.
