pimp-boy,

Sorry for the delay. I missed your post. I have installed the new mirrors along with the switch and have a dealer that knows how to make them operational. You have to have your memory seat module re-flashed/programmed to recognize the folding mirrors. This has been confirmed to me by someone who has successfully had it done although I have not yet done so. Just need to make time to take it in.

Botill. I just want to comfirm that all you had to do is swap in the stock mirrors into your 2011 F150 Platinum and the mirrors functioned like normal without any programing? I really want to get rid of my towing mirrors and go back to the smaller one.... Thanks.

Hi Botill, just wanted to checkin to see if you had a chance to bring it into the dealership to have it reprogrammed and is working as advertised. Can you let me know? I'm planning on following your footsteps if it is just

1 - Get 2 regular mirrors
2 - Get a new switch with the power folding option
3 - Have dealer reprogram the memory seat module to recognize the folding mirrors.

Thanks!!!

Hi Botill, any updates? I'm in the process of looking for an F-150 and if you were able to successfully swap from tow mirrors to standard power folding mirrors, they will help me out alot.

Someone should probably just make this topic a sticky.

I am looking to do the same thing. Working on trading Raptor 6.2 for Platinum 6.2 and the huge tow mirrors will have to go.

I am with the rest of you guys wondering why ford would force this option onto customers, who clearly after reading this thread really don't want or need the tow mirror option. Power folding I would use, but the tow mirrors are going to be nuisance more often then a help. Either way just downsizing the mirrors will be a must, making them power fold like the std platinum mirrors would really be nice.

Switches
Mirrors
flash to the memory seat module
and that is it? Ready to roll? with everything working?

Also anyone have a cost estimate for all this. If I were to take a educated guess around 600-700.00????

I am 99% sure the switch is identical to the non power fold switch except for the writing on the joystick that states pull back to fold or something to that effect. So appearance wise it should really look pretty much the same except for some instruction lettering on the switch bezel.

I have wanted to do that from day one. My trailer is only 23 ft long. Never needed the big noisy mirrors.

Just ordered a set of tow mirrors for my 2011 FX4. Should have looked here first. I will have a set of power fold mirrors when done if anyone wants them. Truck has 2700 mi. Anyone have directions or photos of removing an 11 door panel?

I might be a buyer. I am looking for Chrome cap power fold. Platinums I think also have the puddle lamps too not sure on FX4s.

The same reason I had to search outside my local dealerships to find the Platinum that had all the options I was looking for (NAV, Moonroof, Man-Step) but with OUT the Max Tow option as I personally don't like the "big ear" look.

I will never tow a big boat/travel trailer on a regular basis so I don't need a permanent tow mirror solution (I can always add clip-ons on the rare times I do).

I hear that in Canada, Ford actually offers the tow mirrors as OPTIONAL on the Max Tow packages; something to keep in mind for those close to the northern border, or willing to spend the airfare to get it and drive it back.

I have done the change over from tow to power fold , depending on how you want them to function, the relay or the programming isnt necessary. The switch is necessary. BTW my tow mirrors are up for sale

I removed my tow mirrors on my 2010 fx4 and installed the power folds. Not all the wires needed were present in the doors or the switch. They can be installed without the relay and without getting the truck flashed. The way mine are installed ,they can be folded and unfolded without the key on.2 wires have to be run between the mirrors from the drivers side to the passenger side. 1 wire from terminal 7 on one (passenger)mirror to terminal 7 on the other(driver)mirror, and 1 wire from terminal 16 on one (passenger)mirror to terminal 16 on the other(driver)mirror. On my mirror switch plug there was no wire on the #4 terminal, a wire needs to be run from the switch plug #4 terminal (or wire if present)to the #16 wire on the drivers side mirror. You will also need to run a wire from the #7 wire on the drivers side mirror to the # 6 terminal on the mirror switch. That should get the job done. ( There were no wires on the mirror plugs on either door at the #7 or the # 16 position, I jamed a wire in the plug from behind so that the pin on the mirror connector would make contact, you can silicone them or superglue them in place). ( if you dont have these wires present then you will have to drill a hole in each of the door jambs to run the wires from one side to the other)
