Cold Air Intake Question

What's up guys,
I got a 5.4, FX2, 2008, SC and looking to get a cold air intake and later a performance (Evolution Programmer, Crypto..). Any tips which air intake would be a good choice?

I've found a variety, chrome and composite pipe. I've read somewhere that the composite pip supposed to be better.

Then i found a post where people swear on the RAM type of intake, which points to the front.

Be aware that a CAI will not be of much benefit without a custom tune. The Edge Evo tunes are written for stock intakes. Most of the benefit will be cosmetic and more noise.

you haven't done much research have you...

#1 - a POS Edge evo (or anyother canned tuninng device) with a CAI on a 3 valve motor = BAD FOR YOU and your truck

#2 - why waste money on an aftermarket CAI???

#3 - Gotts intake mod + custom tune = end of thread

Tell me if I'm wrong now, but If I do the gotts intake mode, there is still a air filter in place.

I'm looking for more power and better miles/gallon. Am I doing the right thing to go "gotts mode" or should i go simply with the gryphon from gopowerhungry?

The Gotts mod allows more air, similar to a CAI. You get the most benefit from it coupled with a custom tune. A custom tune with a Gryphon or Xcal3 will give you the single most power and responsive result. Mine tuner is the one mod I could not do without.

And yes, with the Gotts mod, the filter remains in place.

I have an Airaid MIT. Works well with my custom tunes and looks much better than that stock intake tube trash.

One more thing, there is no drone at all.

I have been thinking about the MIT tube....Greenfilters makes one very similar and I am a big fan of their dry filters.

I hate the look of the stock tube with the Gotts mod....plus I have a hard time believing that the resonators don't rob air from the engine. Seems like they are nothing but bad for a free flowing system!

I am already hooked on what VMP has done for both our mustangs....so I am prob gonna go with them for the SCT Xcal

Now,.. I'm tending to the gotts mod and a tuner. I have a few other questions. One post of a user, shows that he installed a 3" tube towards the fender. Loos good and sounds great from what I've read. I just found a post where someone replaced the complete plastic piece with the 90degree elbow. He installed a 90 degree stainless 3" pip coming from the air filter to the fender. Is that another option? or will this type of mod bring issues?

Just go to home depot and get a 3" pvc pipe and then cut it to the length you need.
I went to Auto Zone and found something on their small intake section that worked perfectly.

I've installed the mod and thisis the result.
The engine seems to run smoother in idle or any other time. In addition, if I hit the gass on the highway or on the street, the engine/transmission seems to shift smoother. I'm 100% sure I'm not making this up. I usually feel every little thing that might feels or sound wrong. ... powewise I don't see a difference.
lowes or home depot don't have the black 3" pipe but carried the white one. So for right now its good to go.
thx for all of ur advice.

Wink intake tube

this is my fix for an ugly design that may still have a design purpose.
bought tube direct from K and N. $75, both reducers about $15. everything else is stock including filter. it does perform a little better, past 3k rpms. the black tape just covers the clamp.

^^ That's great.

Now - all you have left to do is get yer A/F's measured and corrected - hopefully before you destroy yer new engine ...

Or after - makes no difference to me ....

On the off-chance that you may actually care enough to notice (I know - a remote possibility, at best), this also applies to 2009+ 'Washoobi'-equipped trucks as well: https://www.f150online.com/forums/4344063-post4.html

In brief: you have a slot-style MAF - move that wee beastie to a non-stock-engineered venturi location, and all bets are off w.r.t the accuracy of yer MAF TF. It's almost certainly peckered now. Especially with a Krap&Noogies intake tube, lol.

Despite all of the vast amount of info regarding the attendant risks documented on this site - you still want to do this? R U Nutz??? R U a 'TMC' and/or 'F150Forum' accolyte
