backup monitor mirror

Anyone with an 09 have the backup camera with the mirror monitor? I'm not sure its even an option with the 09. In other words, if the camera is available without the navigation.

Anyway, I'm looking for a part # for a Gentex mirror with the monitor AND microphone. Need the microphone for the Sync. If I have to end up installing the universal Gentex mirror with the monitor and no microphone, I know I can install a separate mic but I'd rather not.

I ordered the reverse monitor and and I do not have the NAV option. It does get displayed in the rear view mirror.

Someone posted these before. I am really happy with this option. Even with a 2" x 2" picture, it's very good.

Thank you.

Thanks for the pics TheCougarGuy. I can see the microphone just like the regular mirror.

After seeing the smaller 2.4" screen, I may just end up installing the Gentex with the 3.5" screen and add a separate microphone. Maybe hack my stock mirror up and see if I can separate the mic and install it on the 3.5" Gentex.

Adding a mic shouldn't be a big deal regardless how I end up doing it.

Now, anybody know the easiest way to get a pin-out on the plug for the mirror? Mine is an 16-pin plug which seems to be standard on the Gentex.

The backup cam/rearview monitor is fantastic. The photo's are in my album. I have not seen anyone post any nav images with the backup showing. It must be even better on the bigger screen.

Sandydiego, any chance on getting some numbers off your mirror?

Should be a FoMoCo and a Gentex number on the back of the passenger's side of the mirror. The Gentex number might start something like GENTX or GENK.

v_tach, let me know if you get all the info for the parts, I would love to get this mod done as well. What are you doing for the camera portion?

I'm considering a few options. Off-hand I don't like the factory camera. I don't like how the Ford badge sticks out so far. It looks like an afterthought to me. However, it may be the best option.

I've been looking at different license plate frame mounted cameras. I've settled it down to a couple that are fairly low profile because some of them too look gaudy to me. I have one on the way sold under the CrimeStopper name. We'll see when it gets here. This is the least invasive option.

Another option is the stock 09 Ford badge (for the camera option) but use my own camera. I have no doubt the Ford camera is ridiculously expensive though admittedly I like the guide lines.

Another option I've considered is a camera mounted in the rear bumper next to the license plate. The plastic there would be a cinch to mount a flush mounted camera. I'm just not sure I'd like it off-center for hooking up a trailer and that area might be too recessed and the rest of the bumper might block some of the side view.

Something else I've been considering rather than the LCD mirror is mounting a 3.5" LCD screen I have in the front sunglass holder in the ceiling. I already have the monitor so its a very inexpensive option and its a pretty good quality display. Just pop it down when needed.

My biggest reason for the camera is hooking up to my boat and travel trailer. So I need to have the camera mounted in a position that shows the hitch.

I'll post details when I've settled. Still lots of figuring to do.
