Washing car towels
Washing car towels
I didn't want to highjack a thread, so I started a new one.
How do you guys reccomend washing the towels you clean your trucks with?
I get some pretty nasty stuff on them when cleaning the wheels, waxing, etc.
I know to wash them seperately, but is there a secret to getting the grime out? Some sort of special prcedure?
Also, I remember washing some pretty nasty towels in college and it left a ring in the washing machine, really nasty. How do you avoid that?

For grunge towels, I usually just wash them with Tide. I buy the 12 pack of MF from wal-mart for 5$ for interiors, grungy areas, etc. I don't really care if they get messed up.
For good towels, I've found that putting in some white vinegar (as suggested to me by another member,) in the rinse cycle does a good job. It's also supposed to keep them nice. I think it's 1tsp per towel, I'm not sure. I just dump a small amount in for a big load of towels.
There's also a product called Micro-restore but I don't know anything about it.

That's exactly why I use Dawn, to cut the wax. If you are really concerned about residue, run them 2 cycles and don't use any detergent the second time. We are talking nasty towels anyway, if you are OCD you will never use them for anything that matters.

We're talking about MFs, correct? I use a small amount of Tide, with no extras, straight tide. Wash with two rinse cycles and at the end of the 2nd rinse, 1 tbls of White Vinegar for every towel. Never use fabric softener. I always let me towels air dry as well.
I use the above mentioned micro-restore that i got from autogeek....i think 128 oz. is one sale at AG for 25...it is well worth it in my opinion..as suggested by rollingrock i use 2 oz of tide (original) and 2 oz. of microrestore for a full load...of course less detergent on both if i have a smaller load
You should be washing every towel separetly. By that I mean only use a different set of towels for wax, sealant, polish, and QD. Your waffle weave should be washed by itself. Your interior towels should also be washed separately, especially the glass towels.
Wash in warm water on gentle with microfiber wash. Then tumble dry low.
