I am thinking it is a problem with the MFS ( multifunction switch ) but would want to start with if all 4 work with the hazards.

I had the same thing on my 2001 ( back in 2005 ) and it was a bad fuel pump relay and would have the same intermittent crank no start....

You could have a sulfated cell in the battery causing an open that the charger cleans the plate enough to put it back to operation...
