Sirius to XM conversion

I've searched through a couple of different threads and have found mixed reviews on whether or not it is possible to convert a factory Sirius radio over to XM. I have an '08 and my free service is about to expire and I'd like to go back to XM. I've seen a few kits (XMDFDK) but no-one is certain if it will work. There is another kit on ebay that uses a different interface than the Terk module and they claim that it does work. Has anyone used the one listed below? I'd like to keep my factory stereo and use the Sirius antennae if at all possible.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Call up Sirius because if I remember they are both one company. For an additional fee I think you can recieve both on one radio with no new hardware. *I THINK*

The merger is complete.

How to do it.

I talked to both Sirius and XM yesterday and they have only merged a select few channels to each others list. For a premium those with Sirius can get Oprah, Opie and Anthony and some sports channels, but none of the music. It may be some time before they will bring over the music channels (which I prefer over Sirius) and may still only work with newer radios. It may be more work than its worth and I'm not comfortable spending a couple hundred bucks and crossing my fingers. Thanks for the reply.

Just get a plug a play, and put it up on the dash. The good thing about it is ,you can then take it in the house and still use it.

Rangerdogy - Did you use the existing Sirius antenna? I'm leaning towards a plug and play that way both XM and Sirius could be used if/when I sell the truck, but I've put in a few before and running the antenna can be a pain. Thanks!

Yes, the stock satellite antenna cord plugs into the XM radio. The radio plug did need a little trimming to get it in, but it works perfectly.

I have heard those Brains that Convert Stock GM's to Sirius work real well, I dont know why this one wouldnt work and it should be able to use the same antenna, from what I understand XM and Sirius antennas are compatible

Thumbs up Sirius to XM - Update

I ended up purchasing the kit I mentioned in the initial post and it works as advertised. I had a small problem with one of the cables being bad and the vendor went over the top to make it right. If you want to convert from Sirius to XM and have the cleanest look possible this is definitely the way to go. It took less than 20 minutes to put in, was very simple to do and I also used the Ford Sirius antenna. The sound quality is as good as Sirius and the radio functionailty is the same. Very pleased with it.
