Post Consumer Reports 2001: F150

Interesting points Consumer Reports makes in the April 2001 issue:

- The F150 is the most reliable vehicle made by Ford in 2000
- In 1980, new ford pickups were the MOST troublesome
- The F150 2wd ranks right behind the Tacoma 4, Tacoma v6, and Tundra for reliability scoring over 20% better than average
- The worst vehicle in terms of reliability was the GMC Sierra 4wd and Silverado 4wd at roughly 60% WORSE than average. The best GM pickup scored a 20% WORSE than average.

We bitch and moan about our door cracks, but it's a lot worse for other folks . . unless you buy Toyota's overpriced, underbuilt, un-trucks.

As I've said in other threads...until you experience zero defect manufacturing you:

A. Don't appreciate it.
B. Ridicule it.
C. Think it's over-priced.

I'd be happy to pay $1000 more for an F-150 if I was confident I could drive it away from the dealer and not be back for 75,000 miles, as I know I can (because I did) with most Honda, Accura, and Toyota vehicles...but I want a full sized truck...............

Has anyone noticed how biased the Consumer Reports bozo's are for selecting their best trucks and cars? The Toyota Tundra or whatever won the best truck... Hmmm. Sounds fishy to me... Not a single domestic.

Heres the list:

Toyota Prius
Lexus RX300
BMW 330i
VW Passat
Honda S2000
Honda Odyssey
Toyota Tundra
Honda Civic Ex
Toyota RAV 4
Mercedes-Benz E320

Who thinks they are takin money under the table? If not, they are too hard on our vehicles! Atleast they kinda like our F-150's and Rangers :-)

They always favored the jap crap for some reason and they say they don't take bribes makes you wonder.

Consumer Reports does not take bribes. And even if they did, Ford has some of the deepest pockets out there and could bribe them just as well.

Consumer Reports likes some of Ford's models . . the Ranger, the Explorer, the F150, the Focus . .

But Consumer Reports focuses on RELIABILITY more than anything else. And while Ford is much better than the domestic nameplates in terms of reliability, they still lag behind Toyota and Honda in overall reliability. There are some models that are the exception, the F150 being one of them. Still, it falls behind Toyota's truck in terms of reliability.

There's more to quality of ownership than just reliability. For me, the Ford was more stylish, more rugged, and presented a much better value.

Question

Hi Doug,
I know that this is not related but I am looking for a good dealer for service work and was wondering if you have any suggestions. I am not that far away from your area.
Thanks

You didn't just use "good", "dealer", and "service" all in the same sentence did you? Bwah-ha-ha-ha-ha! And were you talking about good dealer service from a *FORD* dealer? That's even funnier.

My dealer service is horrible. (Townsend Ford, Tuscaloosa AL). I'm a couple hours from you, so I'm not really familiar with the Ford dealerships in the areas surrounding Scottsboro. I've ridden through on my Motorcycle, but I don't remember much about it, though Guntersville made a lasting visual impression on me (loved the lake).

Do they off-road in Japan? Silly question but have been pondering that for awhile!
