What's going on?
ok I'll fill-up both tanks and I'll use 1/4 of the front tank leaving 3/4 of it full and I'll switch to the rear tank and drive on that untill 3/4 then switch back and my front tank is totaly full again?
It seems like my rear tank runs through the gas quiker.....is it possible for gas from the rear tank some how be transfered back into the front tank? |
The tanks are not connected, so I dont think the gas can move from tank to tank.

Wasnt there a recall on something like this not too long ago. Something about fuel "crossflow"? You might do a search or call your local dealer. This just sounds kinda familiar.
Then again I could just be crazy. |
Hey 302, u live south of me like 2 hours, i am by Kirksville!

There was once a problem with faulty check valves that allowed the fuel from one tank to go into the other, but that was solved by '93, I believe. Your situation is due to simple math; Your rear tank is smaller than your front tank, therefore you will always go farther on a 1/4 tank from the front than you will from a 1/4 tank from the back.

ya but PKRWUD...when I use 1/4 of my front tank I switch to my rear for a while and then switch back and the gauge shows my front tank to be more then full, and thats after quite a bit of driving...I dunno though, everything seems to be running ok though

In theory the fuel couldn't return to the wrong tank unless both pumps were energized. It could happen, but I doubt that is what is taking place.
It could just be that the forward tank sending unit isn't very accurate. Does it do the same if you run the front tank way down and then drive on the rear tank for a while? I know my two tanks react the opposite when getting low. On one the gauge goes down under braking, on the other it goes up. Once they are below around a 1/4 tank they react even to moderate acceleration. |
nope it's just the front tank that does it...I should have mentioned it's also the same tank with the bad fuel pump, I'll be replacing that soon.

Sounds like your thing-a-ma-jig is crossed with the watch-a-ma-call-it making your doodle-ma-bopper skrew up. Tecnically speaking of course. I'd say at least your not loosing fuel, I mean your front tank gets fuller (I know thats not a word). When you figure out how your getting more gas, let me know the secret. :D
On a side note, thats wierd dude  |
