How many converters

Some websites say that my truck has 2 cats but when I look under I only see one and that is about 2 feet after the y-pipe are there two? I might have to look again.

It is suppose to have two cats. Both after the Y pipe inline one after the other. If you bought your truck used it is possible that the previous owner had one removed or had both replaced by a high flow cat.

mine has 2, one at the Y right where the 2 pipes meet together (i gutted mine because it got clogged), and one a little bit further down (recently replaced).

My '95 has two. There is actually no Y pipe on my truck, the two primaries run into the first cat and then from there the system runs through a single piple. If you actually have a Y pipe it sounds like the previous owner may have ditched the forward cat.

Beastie, sounds like the previous owner took the second cat off then. Originally the trucks came with two cats, the first one like others have stated acted as the "Y" for the system. Then out to the second cat and then off to the races for the muffler and tail pipe section.

I had mine replaced on my '87 and the '94. It is the replacement parts that is specified for the truck. There is only one cat now. There is a "y" pipe that attaches to the manifolds or headers and then goes into the cat. There out of the cat to the rest of the exhaust system.

With the deletion of the second cat OR the change over to a single cat, it frees up more HP & TQ which everyone is looking for. :D
