Help a newbie buy a 70's vintage f100 or f150
Hi folks im new to the site and would like some help buing an older f150
What should I watch out for What is the best year / Motor what are the common problems in older ford trucks I do know that I want a regular cab non 4x4 and fuel milage/reliability are more important to me than power Thanks in adavance for the help |
well, keep in mind that fuel mileage and reliability isnt gonna be easy with a 30 or so year old truck. as far as engines, many people here will agree that the 300 inline 6-cylinder engine is probably gonna beyourbest bet. its extremely reliableand a workhorse. good luck on your search!

over the years ford has built lots of GOOD motors . none as good as the 300 I-6 as far as reliability . if i was looking for a 70's era truck it would have to be a 78 highboy w/ 460 , keep in mind anything you find for a decent price is going to be dam near frame off restore. but when your done ya got a very nice truck .

Well, back in the day I used to drive Dad's 77 with a 351 auto 4x4. It was bullet proof until I got in a wreck with it. I called it the floater...everytime I stomped on it, it would rise up a few inches and float until I let off the throttle. It was the coolest truck I've ever driven, ever!
There is one down the road from me for sale now, $900. A little tattered now. |
