351W motor mounts, right and left the same?
On a 351W, are the motor mounts the exact same for the driver and passenger sides?
I ordered a "pair" and they are exactly the same part number, but searching around a bit, I was under the assumption they were different for the two sides? It is for a 1966 F100 that has had a 1978 351W installed before I purchased the truck. It looks like the correct perches have been used, which are different for the two sides. Thanks in advance. |

Thanks for the link. I wonder if the 351 in the link is on a 335 block? Mine mount to the bottom of the block on the Windsor. I used the Rock Auto site you supplied and drilled down into the 302 block info and it appears they are the same on the R and L so I think I have my answer.

I think you may be right! The 400 uses the same mounts as the 351 so the truck 351 that year must have been a M-block.

If your 351W is a 1978 engine, it's out of a car. Looks like the trucks used the M-block from 1977 to 1982. You sure yours is a W?

It is a Windsor, the radiator hose comes out of the front of the intake and it has 6-bolt valve covers.
Perhaps the person I bought it from mis-remembered the details from when he bought it. He said it came out of a 78 pickup along with the suspension and power steering setup. He had the truck for 10 years and perhaps forgot a few details. It may have come out of a car. Here is some other info I found on its' use, I see it didn't go into the f-series until 1987. I'll have to get the block numbers and check it out further: Applications:

I think that list may be incorrect. It looks like they started putting the 351W into trucks in 1980, and 1981 was the last year of the 351M due to emission control reasons, it was not compatible with O2 sensors due to the in-head air injection ports.

Part of my confusion is that there are two different types of motor mounts on it now, so the previous owner was either confused when he put the motor in or he cut a corner with some mounts that he had. The one that failed is the odd one and does not match the ones I ordered.
I found some block numbers, but need to go back under and try to find the numbers/letters preceding the 6015AA that I found. Also the adjacent code is 7K20, so if I deciphered that correctly it was built on Nov 20th in the 7th year of a decade, so probably a 77 or 87 motor. |
