1985 f150 blown engine

Hi, new to the forum and need some input. I blew my 4.9 and am looking for a low cost engine swap. Would love it to give me better fuel mileage. Thanks

Find another 4.9. Nothing else is going to get you better mileage.

Thanks for the input. Kind of what I figured. Any idea how new I can go? Mine is no smog carburetor with auto.

87 went EFI.

Still basically the same motor even in the EFI years, they can be converted back to carb. An awful lot of those motors stuffed into early 90's trucks. In Canada they had a model called the Enforcer; pretty much all of them came with 4.9's

I may have found a low mileage 5.8 auto 1997 f250 .I think I want to put it in my 85. Any thoughts?

I thought one of your goals was to increase fuel mileage?

Ogdave 02-28-2017 10:59 AM

It is. Not finding inexpensive decent 4.9 on a very low budget

There's a lot more to a V-8 swap than meets the eye - you would have to do a full carb conversion and electronics delete.

So true. Not too mention exhaust. I will keep looking for my 4.9. Thank you for that input

What's blown on your 4.9? Is it rebuildable?

Ogdave 02-28-2017 04:57 PM

Not rebuildable block cracked

glc 02-28-2017 08:25 PM

Can you find a reman short block?
