I have a 1993 F150 5.0 L engine, automatic that started running rough, the check engine light is on, I hooked up my autoxray 3000 scanner and it shows vehicle not responding. so I tried the paper clip or wire jumper method to try to get a read of the codes, there is no clicking sound from the solenoids, any ideas would be greatly appreciated

 

Not sure if it goes back that far in years, but check the fuse for the cigar lighter. On the OBD II they share the same circuit. Being yours is a '93 it may be different.

 

Tomorrow I will check all of the fuses to make sure one isn't blown, Thank you for your reply, never thought of maybe a blown fuse, I did check the fuses under the hood and they are all good.

 

I checked all of the fuses and they are all good, so I am back where I started, can't get the paper clip or the scanner to activate the solenoids, so I can not get a scan,the truck starts up good and then after a couple of minutes the check engine light comes on and then it starts to run rough.

 

Could possibly be a faulty O2 sensor - motor will run good in open loop until it warms up to operating temperature. At that point it will go into closed loop and the fuel management system will start reading the o2 sensor.
Something to look for.
