94 F150 Rough start, then runs fine.

Hey everybody! I'm new to this forum and I just have a couple questions. I just bought a 94 F150 5L 302 2wd. I'm having an occasional problem when starting the truck in the morning. It's slow to start but when it fires up it sputters for a second or two and then starts running fine. After that it starts and runs great all day long. This only happens after its sat for a while. Hoping it's not a fuel pump and maybe just an air temp sensor or something.
I have recently had to replace the alt. and positive batt. terminal. Seems to be getting good charge. Just threw that part in in case it might have something to do with the issue.
Also. This truck was a country truck. Lots of gravel and dirt roads. The engine is completely covered in thick dust! Wonder if maybe a sensor got dirty or something. Any help is appreciated as I don't want to pay for something I don't need. Thanks

Does it start any better if you push the pedal down a bit? Sounds like it may be a sticky IAC. Have you looked at the air filter? If there's dust all over the engine, it may be plugged.

I checked the filter. Looks brand new like the guy replaced it before he sold it to me. I haven't tried pumping the gas before starting since its fuel injected but if I give it a little gas when it's sputtering it will get up to normal idle a little quicker

If I'm correct the IAC should be plugged right into the side of the breather box, right? I've heard about some folks just unplugging t and tiring it with some air and it fixing the issue. I'll try that

No, the IAC is mounted on the throttle body. You may be thinking about the MAF sensor, which you may or may not have - I don't remember exactly when the 302 went from speed density to mass airflow. I didn't say pump the pedal, I mean press it down a little bit and hold.

Well I went out and started it up this evening. It cooled down outside today and when I cranked it, it fired right up. Not a single hitch. It seems like anytime the weather gets above 60 degrees or so, that's when it starts having issues more. I'll wait until the weather gets a little warmer and try giving it a bit of pedal the next time it happens

Ok so I guess what I'm seeing in the side of the breather is the IAT(Intake Air Temp) sensor. Could this be the issue and can I test it with a multimeter?

Have you checked the EEC for stored codes?
