Please help, my truck is OOC!

Hey all,

Been a while since I've been on here. I used to have a 2010 F150, but ended up getting a family car instead but I also have a 1996 Eddie Bauer 5.0L F-150. Great old truck and still looks really good.

The truck has about 160k miles on it and the only problem I've had with it over the past few years is my current issue. My harmonic balancer is shot and about to come apart. I limped it to a local Ford dealer and they removed the balancer which is actually in pieces. It was that bad.

Dealership informed me that I am shi* out of luck because nobody makes that particular balancer anymore. I've spent the last 3 weeks searching for one, but nope, they are correct; you cannot buy one, they are discontinued. I even called the Damper Doctor to see if they have a reconditioned one. Sent him pictures of my current one and he said that it is too far gone. I've tried salvage yards, ebay, and etc. with no luck.

So, I am running out of options. Really hate to scrap the truck or install a new engine just because of a stupid harmonic balancer.

The Ford part number is: F6TZ6316HA. It has a reluctor ring ("tone ring") on it with four points on it.

Anyone have any other suggestions on finding one or using a modified after market one?

Any assistance is appreciated. I really need my truck!

Go to a junkyard that is on the computer net and see if they can find one. There has to be one somewhere - a 1996 302 isn't that rare. Junkyards also have an interchange catalog - I'd bet that there are additional years and models that use that particular item. I'm guessing the reluctor ring is only used on OBD2 vehicles, so it would have to be 1996 or newer - maybe a later Explorer uses it.

I found that too - and it's a universal 289/302/351W balancer. I highly doubt it has the reluctor ring.

Nope - doesn't look like that's compatible with a F-150. I checked the Dorman site and they don't make one.

I tried those. Mine was only used for one year on select models. Dumb. It has a weird looking 4-tooth ring on it. I've tried salvage yards too.

I can't believe this is so ridiculous to find. I can find parts for my 65 Chevelle easier than this truck.

I've tried salvage yards too.
Have any of them done a computer search?

Looks like you may have to figure out what components need to changed to use a damper with reluctor off another model of the 5.0. Some of the amazing mechanics on this forum might chime in and tell you what you need to change along with the harmonic balancer.

I know I'm bumping an old thread, but I'm in a similar situation and finding no help anywhere...
has anyone found a source for a harmonic balancer with the 4 point sensor ring?
Mine has one of the points broken off

I would suggest giving these guys a call. They show to have it in stock. I'd call first to make sure it is the right one and that they actually have it.
