new carb??
Want to put a 4 barrel carb on my 351w.its an 85.what would you guys recommend? Cfm? Brand?
What intake? 2 or 4 barrel?
Holley Truck Avenger 470 cfm Edelbrock Performer 500 cfm Holley 600 cfm Street-Legal Carb or Holley 500 cfm 2 barrel Anything larger than 600 cfm will be too big for a SBF, unless stroked and headers. Been there - done that on a SBF. Holley is actually very easy to tune, you just need to follow the supplied instructions. |
1985 Ford F150 UREMCO Part number 7-7805. A remaned factory replacement Holley 4 barrel carb.

My bad guys.its a factory two barrel
Here's another one for ya......I have an hei dizzy....would I have to replace it with a vacuum advance model to make the carb work rite? I can put the petal through the floor and never hear the other barrel open up now?
A 2 barrel runs both barrels all the time, it's not like a 4 barrel where 2 run all the time and the other 2 open when floored.
To replace a 2 barrel with a 4 barrel, you need to change the intake manifold or get an adapter of some sort. I don't understand why you would have to change the distributor. |
Don't know either.was told it needed to be able to vacuum advance with the 4 barrel??? I've got an adaptor plate already.
I thought you already had a carb on hand? If you are looking for performance, you will not see any improvement installing a 4 brl carb on 2 brl intake.
The 4 brl carbs I mentioned are vac secondary, and will operate with a vac advance factory dizzy. Let's start over now. You want to improve performance with headers and a 4 brl carb, correct? Leave the dizzy alone for now. Install the headers and carb at the same time. But first, look for a used 4 brl intake to go with the 4 brl carb. Why rejet a carb twice, when you can tune it one time, with a 4 brl intake. |
Ok...little confused.do I need a stock vac dizzy or will my hei one work?
I did have an intake and carb.butttt....that fell through
Vacuum advance depends on a carb or ported manifold vacuum - but a carb could care less whether there's a vacuum advance or not. If you don't have a vacuum advance, all you have to do is plug the port for it on the carb or manifold, wherever it is.
OK.yeah there is a port that is plugged on the carb and manifold??? Well, there's a whole bunch of em since I took off all the emissions crap.lol.this truck just doesn't seem to have the power I think it should?
When you took off the "emissions crap", you upset the balance of all the components.
No sir.all the emissions stuff was already unhooked when I bought it.I just finished taking it off to tidy up the engine bay.the smog pump was long gone.just a bunch of the valves and vacuum hoses remained.I'm not new to engines....just big ford engines.I've always been a diesel and import man.lol
I have adjusted the carb and the timing.she's running perfect....just seems, To be under powered. Is a 351w just a weak motor?
