valve rattle 4.9

i have some rattling noise in my 4.9, i think it comes frome the valves, do they need adjustment? i think i read somewhere the where hydraulic self adjusting?
or could the rattle be something else under the valve cover?

Well, the roker arms are non-adjustible, so we really need more info to provide suggestions.

would it help to make video with sound on it?

glc 11-11-2012 01:06 PM

Exactly when and under what conditions does it rattle?

johny89 11-11-2012 01:34 PM

from the moment i start the engine until i shut it of, when in neutral all rpms, when driving due to other noise i hear it untill +-20mph. lately it makes a grunge when starting aswell but i think it has an other cause

glc 11-11-2012 01:44 PM

Does it increase in frequency as the rpm's go up? Manual or automatic transmission?

"Grunge"? Whazzat?

johny89 11-11-2012 02:44 PM

it increases as the rpm does , auto trans (c6)
growling noise= grunge

The rockers are adjustable via shims under the pedestals but for your problem, I think it's highly unlikely they need to be adjusted.

A video would be extremely helpful. Can you get or borrow a mechanic's a stethoscope to help pinpoint the source of the ticking?

here's are two video, one trying to start the truck second when just started, don't know if its noticeable in it just for luck.

changed spark plugs due to one cill was bad, rattle (ticking noise) is still present, it seems to start only a few seconds after the engine is started. not directly
