1989 F150 - Fluid Leak??
 

Wondering if anybody can help me with this...

I was walking by my truck today and noticed I had a leak. I got under it and checked it out and it looks like a red fluid... I put a white sign under it and a few hours later, I go to check it, and the fluid is indeed red. I am by no means mechanically inclined, so I have no idea what this is. I recently had a gasket leak which I fixed and now I have this and I don't know if they could have something to do with each other...

Truck specs if needed... 89 F150 302 V8...

I have a few pictures below. Sorry if they're not the best. That was the best I could do - Hopefully someone can inform me what this fluid/substance is and where it might be coming from...

Is it automatic trans or standard? Red fluid will be either the transmission if its an automatic, or power steering fluid.

Red fluid is ATF. As said, automatic trans, power steering, or manual trans/transfer case if it uses ATF.

This being the case, I'd advise you take it to someone who does know what they are doing.

^ Well, obviously I wasn't planning on taking the transmission apart in my driveway when I have no idea what I'm doing. I'm obviously going to take it to my mechanic.. I just wanted to see what it could be.

Looks to me from the pan to be an AOD, and yes, that would be the ATF leaking.

Save yerself the money, make a little mess, and drop that pan to put on a new gasket. While the pan is down, swap the filter, and finish the job off with a top off with about 5-7 quarts of fluid.

You'll be done by beer thirty.

Replace the line. Take it to a oil change joint and have your tranny filter changed. If you can afford it, have a B&M shift kit installed, ( saves your tranny from terminal failure ).

I 2nd Adrian. From the photos it appears the gasket is leaking. Is that the gasket you replaced 89f150? Don't be afraid to make repairs yourself, if you replaced another gasket yourself, you gotta have some mechanical skills. Just take your time and research the project. Yep, turned out to be the gasket. No leaks so far!
