Canister purge solenoid cycling open/close at engine RPM speed?!

I was listening for a tick under my hood and I happen to touch my new canister purge solenoid (old one did nothing when 12v was applied). It was my tick!! It was constantly cycling and would get faster if I revved the engine. Any ideas? The truck is a 1995 F-150 4.9L 5 Speed 2wd. Thanks

Make sure you have the hoses connected properly. If you have them reversed, it might tick.

I will double check the hoses tomorrow. With that being said, I take it that the normal operation of the solenoid is not a constant on/off? Its open and closed should be conditional and timed, correct?

The EEC controls it. At any time when the engine is running, it might be off, on, or pulsing at any frequency. If you put a 12V test light from one of its wires to the other, the clicks should match the light. If so, the EEC is doing it; if not, it's mechanical, probably due to reversed hoses or a damaged CANP.

The hoses are hooked up correctly. Steve83: It is normal for the EEC to make it pulse under certain conditions?
