Opinions desired on used 1994 F-250 4x4

Hey everyone,

I haven't been on the site in a while, as I've been enjoying a 2005 Mustang GT. I'm looking to buy a truck to do some off-roading, hunting, and construction work in. There is a 1994 F-250 XL that I am interested in buying. It has a 351W, which is fine by me, I don't need/want a diesel at the moment. It has a manual transmission, and 150,000 miles. It seems to have a solid-axle swapped in, which is a big plus for me. It also has a Warn winch and grille guard. Long bed, regular cab. I am curious to know if y'all have any recommendations or insight before I buy the truck. Rust actually doesn't seem bad at all. Is the 5.8 a good engine in these trucks? People seem to like them in the F-150's. Parts would be easy to come by for that engine, too. He said it is a manual Warn winch, I'm going to find out which model it is. It has bigger tires (look like 35's to me) with a lot of tread, and a spare of the same type. He is asking for $4,500, but I will probably only offer $2,000. Here's the ebay link, which expires soon. I will post the pics later I got from him, he sent me a bunch of really good ones. I would appreciate your thoughts, Thanks!

I would buy that truck in a second. Especially if it has a solid axle swap done.

Yeah man, from the pics, it looks like a solid axle. I had a 2003, so I've never crawled underneath one of these to know what the TTB looks like. I think this could be a very good purchase. He also said that he "had a new clutch put in along with a radiator, fan housing, fan, water pump, A/C." Is there anything else that typically goes out on these models at this age? Are these solid manual transmissions? Any one have complaints about the transfer cases or locking hubs in these trucks?

If it's a ZF, their only problem was the slave punching through the front, but if that was gonna happen, it would have long ago. If it's a BW or NP, they don't have OD. Read this caption:

The t-case is known to destroy itself when the pump stay arm wears thru the rib inside the case, but they're common & inexpensive in JYs, so it's not a big deal to swap it out.

Hub locks are the same as any other HD truck - just make sure they're clean & dry inside. Packing them with grease prevents them from working, so don't.

That has duals, only certain combos of F-150's had a single.

I cant tell exactly if that is a Dana 60 from the angle. The one showing the passenger side seems to show the 50 TTB drop bracket.

If it is a 50, no more than 2000, if a 60, he has more of a leg to stand on.

But if you look at the picture from the passenger side it looks like a round axle tube, so not ttb. Correct?

Not all D50s are IFS (TTB), but you're right that no TTB has a round tube.

I asked him, but he wasn't sure. I'm still waiting to get the door sticker info from him. Here's "bigfoot"...

And that would be a lifted Dana 50 TTB.

Easy for tires to look like /--o-\

Two grand tops.

Thanks man, it didn't clearly look like a solid axle, that was deceiving! I appreciate your help. I'm gonna make him an offer, see what he thinks...

And I'd hold out for a F350, but I'm a picky guy.
