Anyone done a Wiper motor replacement going from 2 plugs to one?

I am looking to replace my wiper motor and can get a one plug motor fairly cheap. I see on most auto parts websites that the Motorcraft motors for my truck come with one plug and a wiring harness to make the change from 2 plugs to one. Has anyone out there had any experience making that conversion? My truck is a 94 F150 5.0L I can get the F9PZ-14A411-AB replacement harness at the same time I get the replacement wiper motor. I just need to know how difficult it is to know which wires from the old two plug harness would connect to the new one plug harness. I've searched the threads but don't find any directly related to this wiring conversion. The harness and motor won't have any installation documentation as I'd be getting them from a salvage yard.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

It's easy. IIRC, the wires are the same colors. You just abandon one of the grounds.

Great, so just match up the like colored wires, you say abandon one of the grounds? Are both grounds the same color I hope?

Also, did you splice into the existing wires under the hood or go all the way back into the cab for the connections?

I like the touch of leaving the existing two plugs and adding the single so you can then go with either type motor, I hadn't thought of that but will definitely employ that same approach.

I got the motor delivered today and waiting for the harness to come, will give it a shot next week if all goes well.

My splices are under that new tape, right there where you'll find the 2 grounds spliced by the factory when you peel the harness open.

Ahhh, excellent! Thanks for that tip, I will make sure and got to that splice junction so I make sure to get the right grounds.

All grounds are the same - there's only 1 "ground". But it's convenient to splice there because it allows the unused connector(s) to be tucked away without using any more wire than necessary.

Ok, got a big problem. The motor I got has 1 plug with 6 connections. The harness I got has 5 wires, looking for 5 connectors.

So now I have a truck with two plugs, a motor with one plug and 6 connectors, and a wiring harness with 5 wires and looking to go to a 5 connector plug. Can I get any more screwed up? Crap, I guess I'll have to scrap the whole shooting match and start from scratch. I am totally bummed!

Steve83, you wouldn't happen to have the order that the six wires are supposed to go onto the one plug wiper motor would you? I was thinking that if I knew what color wire was supposed to fit to which post on the wiper motor plug that I could solder the wires to the motor connector prongs and then wrap that up and ghetto form my own plug. That would save me from having to return the motor I have on hand and I could splice into the existing 6 wires from the two plugs and leave those in place in case I ever have to go through this exercise again. Or any idea where I might find what order (top to bottom) those wires should connect? I would appreciate any help/hints anyone out there might have to help.

I couldn't even guess unless YOU can tell me what year/model that motor came from.

Buzzsaw28 07-20-2011 09:44 AM

Ok, Sorry about that, the motor came out of a 1996 Ford F350. I surfed the net for a couple of hours last night hoping to find a picture of a 6 connector plug with wires for a Ford Wiper motor and the only one I found had a black and white picture so I couldn't tell what the colors were, just having one of those weeks. I checked with the place where I bought the motor and they no longer have the vehicle the motor came out of so I can't get the connector wire from them and they also said they didn't have any other similar models at this time. Thanks for any help! Also, if anyone reading this thread has a single six plug wiper motor connector and could provide a picture it would be greatly appreciated, need to be able to see the color of the wires and the order they plug into the motor.

I just found this. I made it years ago - IDK why I didn't upload it...

Holy Cow! That is absolutely perfect! :rocker: I was also able to locate a 6 plug harness this morning so that along with the diagram you posted should give me everything I need to get the motor and wiring harness installed. You are a lifesaver!!! :bows::thumbsup: :beers:
