If you get a MSD coil or any high volotage coil you can also get higher performance wires, so you can bump your base timing up another 3.5% or so. Make sure you only get copper core autolites\copper motorcrafts. Thats the only thing these engines really like. Click the six-litre tune uplink in my sig.

That wont show me whats in your cart, it'll show me what's in my cart; which is nothing lol. A 48,000 volt coil (I have the MSD 8227), high performance wires (I have Accels), and autolite copper cores gapped to .050 or .055 will do the trick. Our trucks call for Autolite 25s but I put in Autolite 24s because they're a heat range lower and enable you to advance the timing more (in my case they did at least). If you need to replace the cap and rotor now would be the time to do it as well. If they're already in good shape then there's no need to replace them.

Says yer cart is empty. Unless you just like spending money, the coil and wires will buy you nothing but a lighter wallet on a stock engine. The K&N also buys you nothing but a dirty intake. They are well known for allowing far too much dirt get past the filter. There have been many reports of holes in the gauze exceeding 140 microns. A particle of 40 microns will damage your engine. The stock air filter, as designed, will handle 7 times the requirements of the engine so there are no gains and in a lot of cases, performance suffers. But it's your money to spend.
Assuming that the pipe is stock size, it probably has no effect on the performance. If the pipe is larger, it can hurt low end grunt. The issue is the temperature drop of the exhaust gases and the engine having to push more/heavier air out of the way so it can breathe. On an exhaust, more is not always better especially for a stock engine. While it sounds nutz, a larger exhaust can actually increase back pressure due to the slower movement of the air thru pipe causes the gas temps to fall and as it falls it becomes heavier which means the engine now has to work to push it out. You can easily have 20-30 Pa increase in back pressure added from a larger exhaust.
Nice truck, BTW.
Pa- Pascal= 1N/m x2 FWIW

I agree with the coil and wires comment unless you make the larger gap and advance the timing. There's a definately a huge difference when it comes to this mod. Just click the link in my Sig to see all the comments from people that have done it to their FSBs. As far as the K&N filter, it's actually been proven to increase gas mileage and power, I have been running mine for about 5,000 miles (2 oil changes) and I've checked it on both oil changes, it's still fine. As I've said before though, don't waste ur money on a cone filter, just get a drop in and swap the air tube from a 460. Then insulate the entire setup. There's also a link in my sig for that one.

anyone have an opinion on the spectre air filters? at this point because cost is a concern and the old girl really needs tune up after 5yr R&R(2500 miles in that time span)I will probably just do the stock replacement parts, and the intake insulation. At some point(and it may be on the next 5.0 that goes in the truck, which I plan on putting together over the next year or so) I would like to have a Hi-Po ignition, headers, etc. She is getting a high-flow cat and a magnaflow soon as I can afford it. She runs good, but not as good as she should, but I am sure a tune up that is 10yrs in coming will help drastically. Thanks guys for the compliments on the truck and the advice.
