1978 F250 400M question

getting ready to put the ole 400 back together, someone told me i should get a timing kit for a 1972 400 and put that in because i'd have more power since that was before they messed with the timing for emissions. Well i called the parts store to order one and they said they didn't offer a 400 in '72. Which im not sure if they did or not i was just going by what i was told. so is there an earlier year timing kit i could put in my '78 for a little more power??

The 400 was available in the LTD (car) in 1972. I used to have a neighbor with one.

It doesn't matter, timing is not set in the timing set
