88 inline 6 keeps stalling
 

Ok heres the deal. My dad has a 88 f150 w/ the inline 6. After it heats up, it stalls. Acts like it looses fuel. Now if you let it sit for about 5 mins it will fire back up and run until it gets warm again. It has never overheated and the coolant is full. I have changed a lot of parts chasing this and I am completely stumped. I even took a heat gun and heated the ignition module on the dizzy to see if it was the problem. No luck. Any advise is appreciated.

So the injectors are getting hot and shutting down? If so where do I get the sensor?

i had a simular problem with my 88 f150 4.9 Inline 6

while driving it would stall when i depressed the clutch, the problem was with the idle control motor _ it's just a small needle valve located on the top of the engine toward the rear on the drivers side.

it has a tube from the exhaust up to it and then into the intake - it gets clogged with carbon just take it apart and clean the needle valve assembly with some carb cleaner make sure it's freed up, this all it took to stop my problem.

the blower motor only ran after you shut down until the injector cooled off, the sensor only controls the blower if my memory is right.

not much on electronics in these trucks, god i miss mine - so easy to work on:D

FF30....its def something getting hot and shutting down. I have had it run sitting in my garage until it dies. Wait no more than 5 mins and it starts right back up. However I havent heard the injector fan running when it dies. Not doubting you at all and I appreciate the input. I will def clean it. Anything else you can think of that might cause this?

I also have changed the fuel filter and thermostat.

i am going through something similar except mine keeps burning up the module.from the symptoms you gave it sounds like the pick up coil in the distributor is getting warm and expanding enough to lose contact. you can get a 20$ one or a 50$ one.

it's been a long time since i got rid of that truck - i tore up that truck so bad 4 wheeling and got broad sided by some kid who had his lic. for only 2 weeks

any how - that needle valve would open when the eng. was cold and allow warm air from exhaust into the intake, if the valve is stuck open (mine was stuck shut) it may be allowing to much exhaust and is messing with the air fuel mix

try and clean it any how - it may help,

The injector blower isn't necessary on any truck, and won't cause it to die. I'd delete it before the blower motor or contoller module catches fire.

Put a fuel pressure gauge on it, and watch it as the engine stalls. Get a Haynes manual & a digital multimeter, and follow the ignition diagnostic procedure in Ch.5 (usually Sec.5 or 7). Read this thread:
