1989 F150 in line 6 300

Am thinking about buying an '89 F150 4X4 to get back & forth to work (live 10miles from job in Eastern Nebraska). Had a '94 GMC Sonoma 4X4 but my son trashed the four wheel drive capability. For those that don't know (I'm from Ohio now working in Nebraska), Eastern Nebraska is like anywhere in West Virginia! I live in the country and the hill's I have to climb to get home & to work are scary to me-I go through brakes once per year and only drive the thing, at most, 4 months out of the year.

I have no doubt's that the thing will get me to work & back during the winter. I do own, however, a 15 foot fiberglass Lund bass boat that I haven't used too much because the Sonoma struggled to get it up & down hills (unless I lived in four wheel drive). I've heard the six cylinder 300 is a dependable motor and the guy I am looking to buy the thing from swears by it.

Can I get some second opinions? If I must buy a V8 I will.

Thanks for your replies!

What's the question? "Will it pull the boat?" Yes. "Is the 4.9L dependable?" Yes.

Just take the time to read the owner's manual, especially about when & how to engage the 4WD. Ford 4WD isn't made to use on hi-traction surfaces (like DRY pavement), so if the road is icy in spots & dry in others, you have to shift each time it changes.
