Bed wasn't even attached as it came from a non highboy truck apparently.

Someone put a lot of time into the tanks, too bad they didn't paint to keep rust off.

I've never understood why a t-case would be divorced - what's the advantage???

adrianspeeder 11-23-2010 08:46 AM

The Ford engineer had a stock interest in the supplier of U joints...

I would think to just use 4x2 tranny's, but I can't think of any thing else.

Got the 435 unit bolted into the '74 yesterday along with the pedal assembly and a manual column. Today should be brackets, shafts, and a starter.

Steve you are runnin' a 435 right? Never had one, just have driven' T-18/19's before. How well does she work?

Since a 4WD version of that trans existed at the time, I still can't see any reason to spend all the extra money to divorce the t-case & use a 2WD version.

Yeah, my truck uses a 435. I have no problems with it - they have a little problem with me, though... ;) I've thoroughly trashed 2, and slightly worn-out a couple more, but it was all me - not the trans. I have a rebuild kit & 2 on the floor right now (well, actually for the past ~4 years); I just can't seem to find the time or energy to dive into it. Plus, the one in the truck is doing fine. I thought it was getting bad, but it turned out to be the t-case finally grenading (after ~450kmi; ~250 of that with me flogging it).
