What's involved in replacing this piece of the throttle cable?

I was replacing my TPS today and in disconnecting my throttle cable I noticed that the white collar in the picture had deteriorated to the point that very little of it is covering the throttle cable sheathing. You can even see that there is a broken piece in there. Right now it is not impeding the throttle cable movement but I fear that if it breaks it's goona make for some problems and I want to replace it ASAP.

My questions are:
What is this particular piece called?
Does replacing it involve replacing the entire throttle cable?
Where can I order just the piece from, if it is replacable on its own?

LMC has entire throttle cables listed but not individual components. If I knew what that was called I'd probably be able to source one.

Thanks in advance.

I had to replace my throttle cable and the replacement did not even have that piece. I haven't had any problems with it.

It won't - it's not long enough, or it would have interfered while it was intact. The purpose of that skirt is to reduce the amount of water entering the cable sheath so it doesn't rust or freeze. Losing a few mms won't have any appreciable effect. Modern versions don't need it because they have seals made of modern plastics that weren't available in the 80s when that one was designed.

Yes, but again: it's not critical. You can fish that little chunk out with some needle-nose pliers, but you run the risk of breaking more off. I'd just leave it alone.

What you need is the cover that goes over all that linkage:

Good info, Steve. Thanks.

I have the cover back on. I had it off when I removed the TB to replace the TPS sensor.
