pick up coil gone bad?

pick up coil gone bad?

just purchesd a 1989 f150 2wd 300 motor with a stick, got it for a back up truck. the guy said the lost spark one day and wouldnt run, he changed the moduel on the side of the distributor and still nothing the he said somone looked at it and said the PIckup coil is bad?? what is this and is it easy to change?

Well an 1989 does not have a pickup coil but what I think he menat was the PIP sensor in the distributor.

Unlike the old pickup coil in the Dura Spark II distributor the PIP sensor can not be changed without removing the distributor.

Most just replace the distributor but the PIP sensor can be changed if you have a press and want to disassemble the distributor.

A lot of Auto Part stores will call the PIP sensor a pickup coil but there is no coil in it like the DS-II system had.
