Is there a trick to the fuel filter?

Well I went to change my fuel filter yesterday and could NOT get the lines off of it. I took the clips off that was holding it on and had the tool to go in the end of the line to open the springs up but still could not get it off. Is there a trick to getting it off? I called the previous owner and he said it's the filter that came on from the factory so is it possible the lines froze on the filter?
Thanks.

The trick is to push the line towards the filter while you try to insert the tool. This takes the tension off the garter spring. When you pull on the line, the garter spring gets tighter like a Chinese finger puzzle.

Large amounts of profanity are also quite helpful.

More tricks.
Spray WD-40 into each connector before you start.
Then twist the filter a little to brake the "O" rings free from the filter.
The use your plastic tool (the metal ones do not work very well) push the line in towards the filter and then push the tool in and hold it in while pulling the fuel line out.
Make sure you have the tool all the way in to release the fingers of the retainer, if you pull to hard without the fingers released they will bend backwards and the then you will have to cut the filter off. I wished they still used the garter springs but they quit that back about 1990.

I only did that on the rear tank. The fuel filter came right off!

Sometimes different line tools make a difference. That's what killed me on the rear tank. My filters have come off regardless of which line tool I used. I still prefer the metal ones like I have in my gallery for working every time.

Nevermind on this being my project for the weekend, my new one is my oil pan. There's a hole in it.

The oil pan is probably the least frustrating.

I'm not sure. You gotta pull the motor to get the oil pan out. At least lift the motor up some.
