1991 Front Hubs

I've got a 1991 4x4 and was wondering if it's worth fixing the auto lock hubs or just go with manual ones.

Lose the auto hubs. They're next to worthless for anything more than a snowy driveway, and they're not reliable at all.

Standard hubs really aren't that big of an inconvenience. If the weather looks like it may turn crappy or you know you'll need it, engage them before you leave then when it gets nasty you pull the floor shifter. You lose half a MPG spinning the front axle, big deal.

Thanks guys. I was hoping that by now some good auto hubs might be available but I guess not. Looks like some manuals are going to be installed.

Now I have another question. When I convert my auto hubs to the locking ones do I need some sort of spindle nut conversion kit too?

You will most likely need something. My 92 had mismatched auto hubs. One side needed a kit and one didn't. Someone had changed out one of the hubs for a newer one. I checked on the kit and it was a little pricey. Believe it or not, I got the parts for one side of mine cheaper at a local Ford dealer. The kit usually consists of an inner and outer nut with a lock ring that goes in the middle.
