1991ish Diesels
I have seen some pretty nice prices on 1991ish F-250 diesels. Anything I should know before making a purchase?
How much better will these pull than my 1991 302 or a '94 351W?

Ford used the Navistar 7.3L IDI Diesel from 1988-current. The 91's produced 185hp@3300rpm, and 360ft/lbs at @1400rpm.(barely above Idle).
It will blow the doors off the 5.0, and the 5.8L in means of towing, but I doubt you'd get a 8 second 0-60.
In late 92, Ford added a ATS turbo, it then it produced 190hp@3000rpm and 395ft/lbs. Later in 1994.5 Ford had the Powerstroke. Which is still in use today. Although it didn't have the power it does today.
If you really want a good puller and a fast motor, look at the 7.5L 460. That's a beast. 1994's produced 245hp@4000rpm and 395ft/lbs at @2400rpm. I can bet you'll get very close to a 8 second and within 1-2mpg's of a 5.8l.

Thanks for the information. Well, I'll have to look at the diesel when I get back to the states. The 460 is very respectable... but the problem is that it drink gasoline something terrible. I'd rather have something that drinks gas and pulls better (like a diesel) if I were going to make that move... Unfortunately, I've only had my 5.0 for about 8 months now, and I'm afraid of losing money on it. If I found a good '91 diesel and could talk the dealer down to $4500 or so, then it might be worth the loss.
Could not find anything in New Mexico when I was looking--and the truck prices there are higher than most other places IMO.
