Question speed density conversion

Has anyone ever done or does anyone know of a conversion kit for speed density to mass air? Maybe there is there a performance upgrade for the speed density? I have a 95 5.8 and am in the process of installing JBA headers and Gibson single side cat-back exhaust and I'm interested in freeing up on the intake side also. Anyone know of anything or have any ideas?

I think there are several aftermarket companies that make conversion kits. I know Motorcraft has one, that runs about 600 bucks. Really if you don't have any serious mod plans in the future it isn't worth it,

Other than the headers and cat-back I was thinking of maybe chipping it. With the new exhaust setup getting the air out of the engine I would really like to improve on the intake side, but $600 sounds a little steep. Thanks for the input though.

Cool

I've seen conversions advertised, but they are not cheap. As far as intake mods go, it seems that there aren't many to fit the 95s. I have a 95 with the 302 and got a good boost with massive drilling of the lower airbox section. I left the cold air tube on because it helps to block heat coming from the exhaust manifold area.

If you're not going to change the cam, raise the compression, or rework/replace the heads you probably won't need to convert to mass air. Moderate exhaust mods, an FIPK, pulleys and a chip are all S/D compatible. MAF in itself doesn't increase your HP, it simply allows you to do a greater variety of mods without screwing up the EFI controls

According to a couple of people I've talked with, even the 1.7 roller rockers will work with S/D. If so, that's a bolt on 10-15 rear wheel HP.

Hey Strange: Do you know what the largest cam you can run in a Speed Density 302? Would it be much larger than factory?

I don't have a clue. E-mail Crower and ask them, they're real good about responding to questions, and make nice camshafts too.
