Post Super Chip?

I'm looking to install a performance chip in my 94 xlt 4x4. It has a 5.0, manual tranny. I was looking for any suggestions anybody might have, good or bad. Or, if anybody might have a used one they want to sell. Note, does it matter if it is mass air, or speed density when it comes to putting in a chip?

Good luck finding a used one! I have wanted to replace mine in my 93 for quite awile. I think the newer ones are better. Mine was made in 1994. I think Mass air and Speed density chips are the same. Look at your computer and get the code.

I like mine, I can't remember what the stats were for it, the only disadvantage is putting in 91 octane. That gets expensive and old after awile.

You really have to ask Mike T. about this one, but my gut feeling is yes. I believe this is one of the ways the chip gets its performance.

I have already checked with him about this and the answer is definately YES! You must run premium gas because the chip advances the timing. I figure if my milage improves with the chip then the cost should balance out with improved performance to boot.

Just thought I'd drop by and answer a few of your questions here....

First, it *does* matter if it's a speed-density system or a mass airflow system vehicle, it's a *big* difference! Each Superchip is programmed for each specific vehicle, so you get a program that is properly designed and fully optimized for *your* vehicle, and not compromised to run on all similar vehicles. In other wrods,. we don't make just one chip for all 1992 5.0 automatic F-150's, but instead make about 14 different programs for that one vehicle alone! Now, from a standpoint of whether or not a Superchip is *available*, yes, they are available for both speed-density as well as the newer mass-air vehicles.

And yes, you *must* use premium gasoline when running the Superchip. The idea here is to tune the engine specifically for the use of premium gas, and that gets considerably more power from the engine, typically increases of about 10%-12% more horsepower, and 15%-189% more torque, on most normally aspirated (meaning not supercharged or turbocharged) engines.

One of the by-products of this tuning in the Superchip is the fact that anytime you're not using heavy throttle, you'll see better gas mileage. On average, the V-8 F-150's tend to get about 1.5 - 2.0 more mpg. Keep in mind that the extra gas mileage is going to depend omn how you drive the vehicle, so if you use a lot of heavy throttle, you may not see much of a gain there.

IF any of you would like to go over the Superhcip in any aspect in greater detail, please feel free to give us a call, we're happy to provide whatever information you need, so you can give it some thought and decide if it's a product you'd like to try.

Our bests to all,
